Tribute to Alan Hill
Alan Hill’s non religious funeral took place on Monday 14th July. A large turnout heard an obituary by a lifelong friend from Dollar academy, Dave Christie, which was amusing and brought out Alan’s strengths. His daughter Jennifer bravely added some real family memories of her Dad.
Alan took over as Junior Convenor on his retirement from teaching having been drawn to Forthill as a cricketer at the club and for the coaching of his grandsons Adam and Samir. He derived enormous pleasure from his involvement and his contribution to Forfarshire, especially the Junior Section. In his first year he was rewarded by the under 12’s winning the John Cooper & Moir Shaw Cups.
Over the years he proceeded quietly and most efficiently to pull together the strands of junior cricket schools development, organising teams and fixtures and Monday night practices when over 70 children could attend. He was very modest about his achievements which also include the Club receiving a Top Club award for fulfilling Cricket Scotland’s criteria for junior cricket.
His presence on a Monday night was taken for granted, along with his wife Liz. The children all enjoyed his amusing and effective control whether at nets or taking one of the junior sides.
Alan’s death is a massive blow to the club and we will all miss him. Our deepest sympathies are extended to Liz and her family.
